Mark Tice, CEO
With more than 25 years of executive experience at both venture-backed and large enterprise software companies, Mr. Tice has a proven record of leading organizations through periods of rapid growth. Prior to SignalDemand, Mr. Tice was the executive vice president of worldwide sales with responsibility for all revenue at MarkLogic Corporation, the company revolutionizing the way organizations leverage Big Data. Prior to MarkLogic, Mr. Tice was the president and CEO of Bridgestream, Inc., the market-leading role management company, where he led until the acquisition by Oracle Corporation in 2007. After the acquisition, Mr. Tice served as vice president of Oracle's Enterprise Performance Management-Business Intelligence consulting practice. Mr. Tice has more than ten years of experience at large, business intelligence companies, holding executive roles at organizations such as Business Objects and Sybase. He has also held senior positions at Mantas, Inc., Borland International and others. Mr. Tice holds a B.S. in Systems Science and Economics from UCLA.
Michael Neal, Chairman, President and Founder
Mr. Neal has applied innovative science to solving merchandising and supply chain challenges throughout his 25 year career. He is the founder, CEO, and Chairman of SignalDemand, which he started in 2004 with Dr. Hau Lee of Stanford University. His extensive industry experience includes co-founding DemandTec (Nasdaq: DMAN), the largest provider of Consumer Demand Management (CDM) software for retail price and promotion optimization. Prior to DemandTec, he held executive positions at Evant (sold to Manhattan Associates), a supply chain optimization software company; and consulting positions at Deloitte Consulting and Accenture. Mr. Neal's expertise includes the development and application of analytical software tools for manufacturers and retailers, with a focus on empirical approaches to decision-making. He holds several patents in related fields. Mr. Neal holds an M.B.A. from the J.B. Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a B.A. in Economics and Statistics from the University of Florida. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Meat Institute (AMI).
Bruce Cleveland, Partner, InterWest Partners
Bruce Cleveland has been part of InterWest's IT team since 2006, focusing on investments in the software and services sector with an emphasis on Cloud Computing and analytical applications. He is a board member of Cloud9 Analytics, Marketo and SignalDemand.
Prior to joining InterWest, Cleveland was one of the original members of the Siebel executive team. At Siebel, he held numerous executive positions including senior vice president and general manager of products, senior vice president and general manager of the OnDemand and SMB divisions and senior vice president of marketing and alliances. In the latter capacity, he is credited by Forbes and IDC with creating the most effective alliance organization in the enterprise software industry. He also held executive positions in engineering and product management at Apple Computer and Oracle Corporation. Prior to Oracle, he held technical positions at AT&T.
Cleveland attended the United States Military Academy, West Point, and received a B.S. in business administration from CSU, Sacramento.
Scott C. Friend, Venture Partner, Bain Capital
Mr. Friend joined Bain Capital in 2006. Prior to Bain Capital, Mr. Friend was Chairman of the Executive Advisory Board and VP of Marketing & Science for Oracle Retail. Prior to its acquisition by Oracle in 2005, Mr. Friend was the President and co-founder of ProfitLogic, a Bain Capital portfolio company. In 2005, Mr. Friend was named a winner of the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" in New England. Prior to ProfitLogic, Mr. Friend held positions at Learning Sciences Corporation, The Parthenon Group and IBM. Mr. Friend received an M.B.A., with distinction, from Harvard Business School and a B.A., magna cum laude, in Electrical Engineering and Economics from Brown University.
Jon Goldstein, Venture Partner, Catamount Ventures
Jon is a Venture Partner at Catamount Ventures. Prior to Catamount, Jon was Vice President of Sales at Grassroots Enterprise, Inc. Prior to Grassroots, Jon spent five years with Remedy Corporation (NYSE: BMC) developing and implementing their sales and channel strategies in the US and Asia. Jon managed the creation and launch of Remedy's first dedicated US telesales organization; he created the engagement strategies for Asia/Pacific and then implemented those strategies through local partnerships and major direct sales; and was responsible for launching and managing Remedy's Japanese subsidiary. While living in Japan, Jon coordinated the introduction of Remedy's products into Japan which included recruiting and managing Remedy's strategic partners and customers, project managing the localized versions of Remedy's software, and hiring and training local staff. Prior to Remedy, Jon spent several years at Island Graphics in a variety of sales and sales management roles, and at Oracle Corporation in their telesales (DMD) and finance organizations. Jon serves as a member or observer on the Board of Directors of Dymanic Payment Ventures , Siterra Corporation, Verdiem, SignalDemand, and advises several portfolio companies including Liquid Engines. Jon holds a BA degree from Claremont McKenna College.
Mark Gorenberg, Managing Director, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners
Mr. Gorenberg joined Hummer Winblad Venture Partners in 1990. He has served as a board member for start-up and public software companies, including AdForce, HomeGrocer, NetDynamics and Scopus Technologies. Currently, he serves as a Director of Aria Systems, Cenzic, Crowd Factory, ontheFRONTIER, Replay Solutions and Signal Demand. Mark is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corporation and The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and The Environment. Prior to joining Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Mark managed a number of new media areas and was a member of the original SparcStation I team at Sun Microsystems. He received a BSEE from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MSEE from the University of Minnesota, and an MS in Engineering Management from Stanford University.
John G. Simon, Managing Director, General Catalyst Partners
As a Managing Director of General Catalyst Partners, John Simon concentrates on technology-intensive, industry-leading software platforms. His areas of focus include: enterprise content management; mission critical enterprise software applications and subsystems; and software-based connectivity platforms. John currently is a board member of the following enterprise content management companies: Maven Networks, Inc.; and OutStart, Inc. He is a board member of the following mission critical enterprise software applications and subsystems companies: GTESS Corporation; ProfitLogic, Inc.; Taleo, Inc (f/k/a: Recruitsoft, Inc.); and Vette Corporation. John also is a board member of the following connectivity platform companies: BridgePort Networks, Inc.; m-Qube, Inc. (John and General Catalyst also are co-founders of the company) ; Millennial Net, Inc.; and MFORMA Group, Inc.
Prior to co-founding General Catalyst, John was founder, chairman and CEO of UroMed Corporation (NASDAQ: URMD), which was merged to form Alliant Medical Technologies. Prior to founding UroMed, John led marketing and sales at Adaptive Networks and was a venture capitalist with Highland Capital Partners and Charles River Ventures.
John is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). He is a co-founder and current trustee of The Steppingstone Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities to deserving inner-city students. In addition to serving on the boards of Steppingstone and Steppingstone-Philadelphia, John has continued his involvement with the non-profit sector by founding the GreenLight Network Fund, which catalyzes the replication and growth of innovative non-profits.
John earned a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.A. from Oxford University , where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Steve Mankoff, Former SVP, Siebel Systems
Steve Mankoff worked most recently as Senior Vice President Global and Technical Services at Siebel Systems, Inc. which was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2006. Steve was a member of the founder’s circle of first employees and the Siebel executive management team. As Senior Vice President Global and Technical Services, Steve was responsible for Siebel’s global Expert Services, Education, Professional Services, Quality Engineering, Technical Account Management, Technical Support, Customer Satisfaction and Offshore Development programs. The combined organization had over 2,100 employees, over 700 dedicated contractors and annual revenue of approximately $1 billion. Steve worked closely with many of Siebel’s largest customers to help ensure the success of their Siebel CRM implementations. Prior to Siebel, he held various product, marketing, and sales management positions at several software companies including Oracle. He earned a Master of Science in Management from the MIT Sloan School and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Brown University. Steve currently serves on the advisory boards of multiple software companies including NorthStar.
